Singer vacancies (February 2018)
We have three vacancies, and are looking for younger voices to balance the group:
We enjoy singing a wide range of repertoire, offering ‘something for everyone’ in our charity audiences, ranging from Bach to Beatles and beyond, some accompanied and some a cappella. The choir has a repertoire of some 80 items which we refresh and augment by 10 new pieces each season. You can look at some recent sample programmes.
We rehearse 7.45-10pm in Stony Stratford on Thursdays, weekly in winter (November to March) and fortnightly 1st and 3rd Thursdays in summer (April to June and September to October; we take a complete break in July and August). We each pay a £30 contribution at the start of the year to cover room hire and music purchase costs.
We are engaged by local charities to perform 8-10 concerts each year, mostly on Saturday evenings. We also undertake 2 carol-singing sessions to raise funds for Willen Hospice and our music fund. The website shows our 2018 bookings. Most years we aim to go away together, for a cathedral evensong, or a long weekend in the UK or occasionally northern Tuscany. In spring 2019 we hope to go to Aldeburgh.
Entry is by private audition with director Roger Windmill. Thereafter, all choir members are re-auditioned every two years, in SATB quartets prior to a rehearsal session. Following re-audition, singers are accepted for a further two years, perhaps with some advice; or they are given advice and a re-audition on a shorter timescale; or, rarely, they may be asked to stand down if voices no longer fit with the ensemble.
